Waterfalls are beautiful but technically difficult to photograph. It also causes hundreds of reflections in the water and wet scenery, which will show up as tiny.

In landscape photography, you’ll mostly use them to smooth moving water (rivers, waves, and waterfalls) and clouds. In bright situations, you’ll be able to use them to shoot at wider aperture for composition reasons (shallow depth of field).
Generally, waterfalls will not photograph well on bright, sunny days as the highlights in the water can be easily blown out and harsh glares and reflections present obstacles. Cloudy, overcast weather will usually produce better results and allow the colors of the landscape surrounding the waterfall to look better.
While it may seem counterintuitive, overcast days are actually ideal for photographing waterfalls. The clouds work as a natural soft box, providing soft, even light. This is far more pleasing than a high contrast scene that's dappled with sun and shade.
